Making your own products, there are many ingredients in your kitchen you can use to create your own lip and body scrubs, face masks etc. Below are some recipes using fresh vegetables and everyday ingredients which can be found in your kitchen cupboard. Have a go and enjoy your creations.
Basket of Soaps
Make your own beautiful soaps, add your own essential oils and colours.
They make great presents
- Melt and Pour Base
- Soap Colourant
- Essential oils or fragrances of your choice
- Bowl suitable for the microwave
- Spoon or spatula for mixing.
Put a small amount of the melt and pour base in the bowl, add a tiny amount of soap colourant.
Place the bowl in the microwave and use 10 second bursts until melted, stir between each burst (remove the bowl carefully it might be hot).
Add your essential oil or fragrance, stir and pour into the mould leave to set.
Use 1ml of essential oil - 20 drops- to 100g of soap base.
Why buy expensive bath oils when you can make your own
Use Almond, Apricot, Coconut, oil and add your own essential oils.
Use 1ml of essential oil - 20 drops - to 100ml of bath oil
Suggested combinations, Ylang Ylang and Cedarwood, Lavender & Clary Sage, Grapefruit & Bergamot, or Gernium Rose and Rosewood.
Remember bath oil can make baths slippery
You can use the salt scrub in either your bath or shower. Take a handful and rub it over your body, simply shower off when you have finished. Salt is a natural disinfectant so very therapeutic to use when in a bath. Sea salt is rich in minerals is gently exoliating and excellent for scrubbing and buffing the skin.
Sea Salt & Rosemary with Lemon
- 3 tbs Olive or Coconut Oil
- 4 tbs Coarse Sea Salt
- Airtight Container
- Fresh or dried Rosemary
- 1 Lemon
In a container mix the sea salt and oil together.
If using fresh rosemary remove the lips and chop quite fine, peel the zest of the lemon, and add to the other ingredients, stir well and add to your air tight container.
If you keep the mixture in the fridge it will become harder, and then you can break of a chuck when you want to use it. It should last for about a week when kept cool.
Fizzy Bath Time
- 100g Bicarb of Soda
- 100g Citric acid
- Lavender heads
Mix together in an air tight container, when it’s bath time just sprinkle some in your water and enjoy.
Avocado Face Mask
- 1/2 a fresh avocado
- 2 teaspoons of honey
Mash the avocado and mix with the honey, leave on the face for 20 minutes and wash off with warm water
A lip scrub will help to moisturise and smooth your lips, gently rub the scrub onto your lips with a clean finger.
If you don’t have kitchen scales, take a tablespoon of sugar and add about two teaspoons of either honey or olive oil, it will keep in an air tight container for a few months.
Brown Sugar and Honey
- 25g Brown sugar
- 10ml Honey
- 2 or 3 drops of Vanilla essence
Mix all the ingredients in a jar and enjoy, keep in an air tight container for several weeks
Caster Sugar and Olive Oil
- 25g Caster sugar
- 10g Olive Oil
- 2 or 3 drops of Peppermint oil
Mix all the ingredients in an airtight container, they will keep for several weeks.
